LAWTON, Okla. – The No. 30-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs did something they had never done since becoming an NCAA Division II program on Friday afternoon. MSU beat No. 21 Northeastern State 6-3 to pickup its first regular season win over the RiverHawks.

The Mustangs (12-4, 5-1) snapped a 13-match losing streak to NSU (9-2, 2-2) with the victory. The last time Midwestern had beaten Northeastern State was on May 6, 2000 when MSU claimed a 5-4 victory in the NCAA regional finals and advanced to the Sweet 16.

"We were very solid at the top of the lineup," said MSU Coach Scott Linn. "It was as strong as we've been all year. I'm so proud of them."

MSU was strong as the Mustangs No. 1 doubles team of Rozike van Rensburg and Alex Odell-Michels, ranked 11th nationally, beat Michaela Romanova and Houda Bellamine 8-6.

The duo came back to help MSU sweep the top four singles spots as well, as van Rensburg beat Romanova 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1, and Odell-Michels ripped Karolina Cichon 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2.

Leah Roberts was a winner for MSU at No. 3 beating Agata Skorupska 6-3, 6-2. Abbie Lewis claimed the win at No. 4 over Bellamine 6-4, 6-0.

MSU got its other point at No. 3 doubles as Lindsey Holcomb and Ashley Huse beat Cichon and Skorupska 8-3.

MSU doesn't have long to celebrate, as the Mustangs host St. Mary's on Saturday, joining in a doubleheader with the MSU men. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
