WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Midwestern State Mustangs used a sweep of doubles action to defeat No. 20 Central Oklahoma 5-4 Wednesday at the MSU Tennis Center.
The Mustangs improved to 9-4 overall, 4-1 in Lone Star Conference play with the victory, while the Bronchos fell to 9-8 overall, 2-2 in LSC play.
MSU was paced by the play of
Abbie Lewis and
Lindsey Holcomb.
Lewis and
Leah Roberts beat UCO's Lacy Caldwell and Anto Rossini 8-3 at No. 2 doubles, before Lewis picked u the win at No. 4 singles over Rossini 6-3, 6-2.
Holcomb paired with
Ashley Huse at No. 3 doubles to beat Anna Kochigina and Rose Cabato 9-7, and then won at No. 5 singles over Cabato 6-3, 6-2 to win the match for the Mustangs.
MSU completed the doubles sweep at No. 1 as Rozike van Rensburg and
Alex Odell-Michels beat Julia Shviadok and Elizabeta Abramovic 8-6.
The Mustangs travel to Oklahoma City on Thursday to meet Washburn in women's and men's play before going to Northwest Missouri State on Friday afternoon.
