Abilene Christian drops MSU twice on Sunday

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- The Midwestern State Mustangs dropped their first Lone Star Conference matches of the season, as the Abilene Christian Wildcats won, both men's and women's matches.
ACU's men, ranked 10th nationally, handed MSU it's first NCAA Division II loss of the season 6-3.

The Wildcat women, sixth nationally, beat MSU 7-2. On the men's side, the Wildcats (12-7) swept all three doubles matches before MSU (9-2) made a comeback.

MSU's Vjekoslav Stipanic got the first Mustangs point with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Eldel Campbell at No. 2 singles.

Luke Joyce moved the Mustangs with a win at No. 3 singles, taking a hard-fought match with ACU's Jake Hendrie 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7).

But the Mustangs hope for a win ended when ACU's Hans Hach claimed a three-set win over Mario Urban 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1.
MSU also won at No. 6 singles as Rory de Boer downed John Strahl 6-7 (5), 6-4, 10-3.

The MSU women (8-4) jumped out to an early lead in their match against the sixth ranked Wildcats (15-5), claiming two of the three doubles matches.
Rozieke van Rensburg and Alex Odell-Michels won the No. 1 doubles spot, defeating Jacklyn Walker and Julia Mongin 8-4. Then Lindsey Holcomb and Ashley Huse beat Lauren White and Micha Hermsdorf at No. 3 doubles 8-4.

But the Wildcats would take all six singles points. MSU got close with Odell-Michels falling to Walker 6-0, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 2, and Leah Roberts fell to Cassie Carver 1-6, 7-5, 6-1.

The MSU women will be in action again at the MSU Tennis Center on Wednesday when they face Central Oklahoma.
