EDMOND, Okla. - Midwestern State has taken its fair share of blows from Tarleton State this season.

The Mustangs weren't going to let that happen again in the opening round of the NCAA Divison II South Central Regional at Hamilton Fieldhouse.

Senior guard Chris Hagan poured in each of his game-high 21 points in the second half to help Midwestern deliver the ultimate gut blow cutting the 17th-ranked Texans stay in Edmond short 64-51.

The Mustangs move on to face Missouri Southern in the regional semifinals Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. as the Lions survived Washburn 82-79 in overtime Saturday afternoon.

Tarleton State's Wes Dipprey tallied the first two buckets of the game before the Mustangs peeled off a barrage of 3-pointers as Keonte' Logan, Adrian Van Buren and Kevin Loyd connected from beyond the arc to give MSU a 9-4 lead. Midwestern would never trail again.

The Mustangs took a slim 25-23 lead into intermission without benefit of a single point from Hagan, a preseason All-America honorable mention and Daktronics All-South Central Region pick.

Hagan was certainly in the mix when the Mustangs took control of the contest midway through the secod half.

The Texans scrambled to knot the game at 38-38 when Corin Henry converted a steal into an open layup with 11:24 to play. It was one of the rare open looks for Tarleton's all-region performer as Henry limited to 11 points on 3-of-12 shooting while committing six turnovers.

Tarleton was able to keep Hagan down in the first half, but the Houston native connected on consecutive treys as part of a 10-0 run as the Mustangs led 48-38 when Charlie Logan hit a leaning jumper in the paint with 6:49 to play.

The Mustangs would extend the advantage to 13 as the Texans, who were limited to 29.8 percent from thef ield for the game, could only pull as close as nine the rest of the way.

Michael Loyd led the MSU effort off of the bench scoring 10 points and dishing out five assists, while brother Kevin Loyd hit a pair of 3-pointers to finish with nine points.

Junior forward Fabian Wilson paced the Texans with 16 points off of the bench.

Midwestern State improved to 23-8 on the season, while the Texans finish the campaign at 24-6.
