Game Day: Mustangs, Hoggies clash tonight at D.L. Ligon Coliseum

Setting the Stage

Midwestern State continues its push for the postseason with a critical matchup with Texas A&M-Kingsville Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
The Mustangs, who took over sole possession of second place with Saturday victory over No. 21 Incarnate Word, must continue to win to keep pace with LSC South leading Tarleton State.
 
Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. or 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game which begins at 6.

About the Mustangs

Midwestern State (18-5, 6-3) goes for its 41st consecutive win under the dome and is in the midst of a stretch of four of five games at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
The Mustangs are 11-0 this season and haven't won on their home floor since the 2008-09 season opener.
 
Reigning LSC South Player of the Week Chris Hagan continues to lead Midwestern and the Lone Star Conference with 22.2 points per game.
 
The senior from Houston broke out of a mild slump and erupted for 33 points in MSU's win over Eastern New Mexico last Wednesday then delivered an all-around performance of 22 points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals against Incarnate Word on Saturday.
 
Junior guard Michael Loyd knocked down five 3-pointers on his way to a season-high 25 points against Incarnate Word. It was his second 20-point outing of the season.
 
Junior forward Darrick Thomas earned LSC South top defender accolades last week after averaging 10 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game. The transfer from Wallace State-Hanceville has come on strong to average 8.4 points and 7.4 rebounds a game during divisional play.
 
Junior forward David Terrell continued his roll with 14 points and six rebounds against Incarnate Word and has scored 14.3 points and pulled down 6.0 rebounds a game while hitting on 27-of-36 shots (75 percent) from the field over his last four games.
 
Terrell is averaging 10.4 points and 5.8 rebounds a contest during LSC South play.

About the Javelinas

Texas A&M-Kingsville (8-14, 3-7) has won two of its last three games and is coming off of a 71-65 win over Abilene Christian Saturday night at Steinke Center.
 
Senior guard Antwan Mullins has paced the Hoggies in their last four games including a season-high 31 in a 77-73 upset at West Texas A&M to pull his season average to 12.0 points per game to go along with 3.1 assists.
 
Senior guard Adam Morris adds 9.7 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while junior guard Mark Stevenson chips in 8.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in Texas A&M-Kingsville's balanced attack.
 
The Javelinas score 60.0 points a game and allow 64.5.

About the Series

Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Kingsville meet for the 34th time on the hardwood Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
The Mustangs own a 22-11 edge in the series and have won the last six contests of the series including a 72-57 win last month in Kingsville. The series dates back to the 1976-77 season.
 
MSU owns a 10-5 mark over the Javelinas in games played in Wichita Falls.
 
Texas A&M-Kingsville's last win of the series came by a 78-63 margin on Jan. 17, 2009 in Kingsville. The victory culminated a stretch where the Javelinas won five out of six from MSU which included three straight wins at Ligon Coliseum from the 2005-06 season through the 2007-08 campaign.
