Hagan-led Mustangs roll past Texas A&M-Kingsville, 77-61

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Chris Hagan exploded for a game-high 26 points to lead Midwestern State to a 77-61 Lone Star Conference South Division win over Texas A&M-Kingsville Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The win was the third straight for the Mustangs who improved to 19-5 on the season and maintained sole possession of second place in the South at 7-3. It was MSU's 41st straight win under the dome.

The Mustangs reeled of the first 10 points of the game and led from tip-to-buzzer, but not before the Javelinas made a game of it by closing to as close at three. MSU would take a 28-24 lead into intermission.

But Midwestern set the tone in the second half as Kevin Loyd completed alley-oop for a David Terrell dunk to open the stanza before Hagan hit a runner and a 3-pointer for the first five of his 22 second half points to push the Mustangs' advantage to 35-24 at the 18:31 mark.

The Mustangs slowly pulled away and led by as many as 21 points when Keonte' Logan converted a pair of free throws to push the MSU advantage to 59-38.

MSU maintained a double figures lead the rest of the way.

Terrell added 12 points on a perfect 5-of-5 from the field to go along with five rebounds, while Michael Loyd added nine points and Darrick Thomas notched seven points and seven rebounds.

The Mustangs limited Javelina starters to 17 total points as Phillip Belford led the way for TAMUK with 14 points and five rebounds.

Midwestern State takes on No. 21 West Texas A&M Saturday night at First United Bank Center in Canyon. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
