GAME DAY: Mustangs out to close 2011 on winning streak

Midwestern State closes a four games in eight days stretch on Monday night when the Mustangs host Abilene Christian in a Lone Star Conference contest.

MSU is 6-3 overall, 3-1 in LSC action after Saturday's 86-70 triumph over Texas A&M-Kingsville.  Abilene Christian is 4-4 overall, 1-3 in LSC play after picking up a double-overtime 92-85 win at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday.

Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.

About the Mustangs

Midwestern State has won its fifth game in the last six outings after an 86-70 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville in MSU's first home game in 28 days.  Now MSU is after it's best start since the 2003-04 season when it opened 8-2, with an eight-game win streak sandwiched between bookend losses.

MSU boasts four double-figure scorers this season led by senior guard Savannah Carver.

The Amarillo native ranks amongst LSC leaders with 15.4 points per game while connected on 1.7 3-pointers a contest.

Freshman guard Dianna Jones is the Mustangs' spark plug scoring 11.1 points a game while connecting on a 1.4 treys an outing. The Waco Midway High product pitches in 2.0 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.

Sophomore guard Kirsti Degelia adds 11.3 points a game to go along with 2.0 assists and 3.3 rebounds a game.

Senior forward Cierra Thompson adds 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds , while frosh guard Shatoia Gober adds 9.7 points and 4.6 rebounds a contest.

About the Wildcats

Abilene Christian is 4-4 overall, 1-3 in Lone Star Conference play.  The Wildcats got their first LSC win of the year at Eastern New Mexico with a 92-85 double-overtime victory.

The Wildcats are led by sophomore guard Mack Langford who tosses in 18.4 points a game, second in the LSC, hitting on 1.8 treys and dishing out 2.4 assists a game..

Sophomore Renata Marques scores 13.0 points with 5.9 rebounds a game, while junior Kelsey Smith adds 12.8 points and leads the team with 6.1 boards and 1.8 blocked shots a game.

ACU has not won consecutive games this season.

About the Series

Midwestern State and Abilene Christian meet for the 55th time on Saturday at Ligon Coliseum.

The Wildcats own a 35-19 series advantage, however MSU sports a 15-9 advantange in the series at Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs have taken two of the last three meetings, winning last season in Abilene for just the third time in program history with a 90-78 triumph on Feb. 26.

ACU won 80-77 in the last game in Ligon Coliseum on Jan. 15.
