ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State is poised to become the fourth team in school history to start the season with 10 consecutive wins.
The Mustangs are chasing the 2009-10 squad which opened the year with 14-straight victories before advancing to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for the first time in school history.
MSU returned to the Elite Eight last season after rolling off 12 consecutive wins after suffering a controversial loss to Fort Hays State in the opener.
A win over the Wildcats would give the Mustangs their fifth 10-game winning streak since the start of the 2008-09 season and the 18th in the storied program's history.
Obviously, the hot start has given the Mustangs an early edge in the Lone Star Conference race as MSU, West Texas A&M and Tarleton State are stride-for-stride without a loss in league play. At 4-0, Midwestern is off to the second-best LSC start matched only by the 1999-00 team which rolled to 13 consecutive conference wins before dropping its finale.
MSU is the only unbeaten team remaining in the South Central Region and is one of just nine in all of NCAA Division II.
The Mustangs have overcome second-half deficits in each of their last three games and are doing it with a balanced attack.
A different player has paced the team in scoring in each of the last four games which have included a pair of breakout performances.
Junior guard
JaMichael Rivers tallied 21 of his season-high 30 points in the second half to key a late charge against Angelo State. The Mustangs overcame an 11-point deficit with eight minutes left to win 65-61 last Monday.
Junior forward
Anthony Harris tied a 57-year-old school record by reaching the charity stripe 23 times on his way to a season-best 33-point performance while pulling down eight boards in a 72-68 come-from-behind win over Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
Abilene Christian (5-5, 0-3) slides into Monday night's Lone Star Conference tilt at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on a three-game skid.
The Wildcats have struggled at the open of league play falling to Cameron and West Texas A&M at home before a 68-59 decision Saturday night at Eastern New Mexico.
Senior guard Zach Williams paces a pack of four Wildcat double figure scorers with 13.7 points per points while adding 4.8 rebounds a contest.
Junior guard Antonio Bell adds 11.5 points and 3.3 assists and junior transfer Kendall Durant averages 11.4 points and 3.7 rebounds while junior transfer Armani Williams pitches in 10.2 points per game.
ACU is under the direction of first-year coach Joe Golding.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Midwestern State meets Abilene Christian for the 80th time on the hardwood Monday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Mustangs have dominated the series which dates back to the 1946-47 season by a 50-29 margin and have won the last six and 13 of the last 14 meetings dating back to 2004.
MSU has swept the last three season series with the Wildcats as ACU claimed its lone last victory of the series by a 90-86 count on Feb. 23, 2008 at Moody Coliseum.
The Mustangs own an 18-5 advantage in games played at D.L. Ligon Coliseum and have won the last seven games under the dome. ACU's Tucker Pierson converted two three-point plays in the final 90 seconds of the game to give the Wildcats their last win in Wichita Falls by an 82-81 count on Feb. 21, 2004.
