Bronchos use 3-ball to subdue Midwestern State, 74-67

EDMOND, Okla. - Central Oklahoma's barrage of seven first-half 3-pointers was too much for Midwestern State to overcome as the Bronchos held on for a 74-67 Lone Star Conference crossover win Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Fieldhouse.

The loss extended the Mustangs' skid to three games as MSU dropped to 4-8 on the season.

Midwestern opens LSC South Division play Wednesday night at Angelo State. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Stepens Arena.

Central Oklahoma's Courtney Allen canned four of her five treys in the opening half allowing the Bronchos to push the advantage to 13 before leading 39-28 at the half.

The Bronchos remained hot from the arc at the start of the second half as Britney Morgan connected on a pair of 3-pointers and Allen added another in the opening 10 minutes as UCO maintained a 50-40 advantage with 10:31 to play.

The Mustangs came storming back to cut the advantage to 55-51 on Nolisha Markham's trey from the top of the key with 6:55 to play.

But the Bronchos rebuilt an 11-point bulge at 66-55 when Ashley Beckley converted an assist from Alyssa Fuxa with 3:22 to play.

MSU kept coming as Katiya Jackson converted four free throws and Kirsti Degelia went 1-for-2 from the charity stripe before Degelia bombed in a 3-pointer from the left wing as the Mustangs clawed back to within 67-63 with 1:38 to play.

The teams traded baskets before the Bronchos put the game away by converting 3-of-4 free throws in the final 23.4 seconds.

Degelia matched a season-high with 20 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor and was 9-of-11 from the free throw line to lead the Mustangs.

Markham added 16 points and eight rebounds while Cierra Thompson pitched in 10 points off of the bench.

Allen poured in a game-high 23 points to lead the Bronchos, while Beckley finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Central Oklahoma improved to 7-5 on the season while the Mustangs dropped to 4-8.
