SAN ANGELO, Texas - Midwestern State took a brief second half lead when
Karissa Lang converted a fast break layup with 17:10 remaining.
But it would be the last field goal for the Mustangs over 12:07 stretch allowing Angelo State to roll off a 27-6 run on the way to a 74-62 Lone Star Conference South Division opening victory Wednesday night at Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
The loss extended MSU's skid to four games as the Mustangs fell to 4-9 overall and 0-1 in South Division play.
It also spoiled a career night by Midwestern senior forward
Nolisha Markham.
The Tulsa native poured in a career-high 27 points as she completed her third double-double of the season with 12 rebounds as Markham connected on 10-of-20 shots from the field including three 3-pointers in 35 minutes of play.
She scored eight of the Mustangs' final 10 points in the opening half as MSU pulled to within 29-28 at the half.
Midwestern battled in the start of the second half as Markham hit the first of her three treys and a had a rebound and a putback before Lang's transition layup gave the Mustangs a brief 38-37 edge with 17:10 to go.
The Mustangs wouldn't score again until
Skyler Warrick hit a 12-footer from the baseline with 5:03 to play to cut the Angelo State advantage to 64-48.
In between, the Belles worked for a 27-6 putaway run.
Angelo State was paced by senior guard Camille Perkins who dropped in 22 points while Paige Weishuhn and Karli Kellermeier added 16 and 12 points, respectively.

Katiya Jackson joined Markham as the only other MSU player in double figures as the Burkburnett product added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists to go along with three steals and two blocks.
Midwestern State returns to action Saturday night against Abilene Christian at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
