WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Savannah Carver came off the bench to erupt for a career high 24 points to lead Midwestern State to its first win over West Texas A&M since 2004 by 62-57 Saturday night in Lone Star Conference South Division play at D.L.. Ligon Coliseum.

The junior forward from Amarillo poured in 17 points in the second half and ignited a 10-2 run with a putback with 17:45 to go in the second half.

The Mustangs steadily pulled away by pounding the offensive glass as junior forward Jazman Patterson added another putback before Katiya Jackson converted a layup off of a nice pass from Carver with 15:24 to play.

Carver and Cierra Thompson capped the run with a pair of free throws each to push the lead to 38-25 after WTAMU coach Krista Gerlich was whistled for a technical foul with 14:03 to go.

After the technical foul, things started to go the Lady Buffs' way.

West Texas A&M rattled off an 11-1 run over a 3-minute stretch to pull within 43-41 with 8:06 to play.

MSU junior guard Karissa Lang broke the Mustangs' dry spell by drilling her only 3-pointer of the game from the right wing to push the lead back to 5 at 46-41 with 6:36 to play.

The Mustangs kept the game at two possession most of the rest of the game, but WT wouldn't go away as Ariel Robertson canned a trey from the top of the key with 15 seconds left.

But Carver put the game away with a pair of free throws with 8 seconds left to cap off her career night.

She connected on 6-of-13 from the field and was a perfect 12-for-12 from the line to go along with three rebounds and three assists.

Freshman guard Kirsti Degelia added 13 points, while senior forward Nolisha Markham completed an all-around night with seven points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Junior forward Jamie Simmons paced West Texas A&M with 16 points and nine rebounds while Robertson added 12 points and 12 rebounds off of the bench.

Midwestern State (6-12, 2-4) plays host to No. 20 Tarleton State Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

West Texas A&M, which had its 11-game winning streak over the Mustangs snapped, dropped its second consecutive division game to fall to 11-8 and 4-2.
