No. 23 Tarleton State rolls past Mustangs, 88-57

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Midwestern State's struggles against Tarleton State continued in Saturday night's Lone Star Conference South Division contest at Wisdom Gym.

The 23rd-ranked TexAnns rolled to an 88-57 win over the Mustangs to extend their season-best winning streak to seven gams and improve to 17-2 on the season and remained perfect at 7-0 in South Division play.

MSU, which fell to 6-13 and 2-5, faces Eastern New Mexico Wednesday night at Greyhound Arena in Portales. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Tarleton extended its dominance over the Mustangs to 11-straight games dating back to the 2003-04 season with a big first half.

The TexAnns used a series of runs to take control early.

Kelsey Benford's layup with 15:19 to go in the opening half kickstarted a 19-5 run as the TexAnns push the lead to 27-11 on Morgan Stehling's transition layup with 8:39 to play.

Stehling poured in 11 of her 17 points as Tarleton closed the half on a 7-1 run to take a 42-20 lead at the break.

The TexAnns, who were paced by Kiara Wright's 20-point, 12-rebound effort off of the bench, would extend the lead to as many as 33 in the second half when Wright converted a layup with 4:08 to play.

Tarleton outdistanced the Mustangs 56-14 in bench scoring as lead scorer Shelby Adamons was held six points below her season average with 11 points in just 18 minutes.

The Mustangs were paced by junior forward Jazman Patterson who finished with 12 points and six rebounds, while freshman guard Kirsti Degelia added nine points, four rebounds and four steals.

Junior guard Karissa Lang joined Cierra Thompson added seven points each.
