    About the Mustangs

Midwestern State's dependence on All-American guard Chris Hagan was tested in Saturday night's double overtime loss at No. 9 Incarnate Word.

The senior, who leads the Lone Star Conference in scoring at 22.6 points per game, suffered a dislocated toe six minutes into the second half Saturday and remains day-to-day.

In his absence, junior guard Deuce Nichols stepped into the spotlight and delivered a season-high 20 points - all after halftime as the Mustangs fought UIW into double overtime.

The Mustangs also received a standout performance off of the bench from junior forward Darrick Thomas.

The 6-7, 220-pound transfer forward from Wallace State-Hanceville (Ala.) converted 7-of-8 field goal attempts including three dunks on his way to a season best 20 points and finished off his first MSU double-double with 12 rebounds.

Thomas has now scored in double figures six times this season including in each of his last two outings as he tallied 15 points and three rebounds while going 7-of-11 from the field last Wednesday against Eastern New Mexico.

The Mustangs have lost three consecutive road games for the first time since falling to Central Oklahoma, Texas-Permian Basin and Northeastern State from Nov. 25-Dec. 15, 2008. The team recovered to win their next 10 en route to an LSC title and a trip to the NCAA Division II postseason.

    About the Javelinas

Texas A&M-Kingsville snapped a five-game skid with a 66-55 win over Abilene Christian Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.

The win was a breakthrough for the Hoggies (6-10, 1-3), who had played consecutive close home games before finally coming up with the victory.

TAMUK battled No. 9 Incarnate Word to within 68-65 on Jan. 15 before taking Angelo State to overtime before succumbing 82-73 on Jan. 19.

Senior Antwan Mullins paces the Javelinas with 11.1 points per game which averaging 2.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest from the point guard position.

Senior guard Adam Morris pitches in 10.5 points and 3.5 rebounds a game, while junior guard Mark Stevenson is the Hoggies' top inside threat with 7.3 points and 5.6 rebounds a game.

Texas A&M-Kingsville owns a 4-5 mark this season at Steinke Center.

The Javelinas average 59.4 points a game and allow 63.2.

    About the Series

Midwestern is 8-6 all-time against TAMUK at Steinke Center and has won in its last two trips to South Texas.

The Javelinas last victory of the series came by a 78-63 count on Feb. 16, 2008 in Kingsville.
