About the Mustangs

Midwestern State had its 12-game winning streak snapped by No. 18 Central Oklahoma Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Fieldhouse in Edmond.

The Mustangs must now avenge their first loss of the 2009-10 season in order to get off on the right foot in LSC South Division play.

Just like UCO, Angelo State out-rebounded the Mustangs by a 45-30 margin back on Jan. 13, 2010 to overcome a five-point deficit and break up MSU's 14-game season opening winning streak 84-76 at Junell Center/Stephens Arena last season.

Midwestern has not fared well in LSC division openers as the Mustangs have posted a 6-7 mark since the league went to its current format beginning in 1997-98.

Senior guard Chris Hagan continues to lead the Midwestern charge having led the Mustangs in scoring in 12 of 14 contests.

The 5-9 guard from Houston continues to lead the LSC in scoring at 23.7 points per game and ranks among the league's top field goal percentage shooters at 52.4 percent.

Hagan is coming off of an 18-point, six-assist performance Saturday at Central Oklahoma.

Junior guard Michael Loyd has scored in double figures in each of his last six games including a 14-point, four-rebound performance against UCO.

About the Rams

Preseason Lone Star Conference South Division Player of the Year LaMarshall Corbett still leads Angelo State in all scoring statistics at 21.8 points per game.

And he's still a dangerous option connecting on 2.4 3-pointers a game after leading the team in scoring during the Rams' first six games - all loses.

Now, Angelo State become senior forward Ridge McKeither's domain as the multifaceted big man has raised his average to 20.3 points a contest while shooting 57.6 percent field with a blistering array of moves in the paint.

But perhaps his most effective weapon is his ability to flat-out rebound the basketball as McKeither - a 6-6, 235-pound transfer from Tennessee-Chattanooga - is pulling down a league-high 11.3 rebounds a contest including a staggering 4.9 offensive boards a game.

Senior guard Richard Thomas adds 15.3 points a game while pulling in 5.0 rebounds per contest.

Steven Moore (8.6 points, 3.9 assists), LaDonn Huckaby (4.8 points, 4.2 rebounds) and Trey Mays (3.0 points 2.4 rebounds) are the only other Rams averaging more than 20 minutes a contest.

Angelo State has won three of its last five games after opening the season with six consecutive losses.

About the Series

Midwestern State meets Angelo State for the 61st time on the hardwood Wednesday night at Junell Center/Stephens Arena.

The Mustangs own a 39-21 edge in the series which dates back to 1966 and has won four of the last five and 14 of the 17 against the Rams dating back to the 2001-02 season.

Angelo State is 18-12 against the Mustangs all time in games played in San Angelo; however, Midwestern is 5-3 against the Rams at Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
