WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State stuck with the early tried and true connection of
Kelsey Hill and
Lindsay Pritchard Tuesday night to come away with a 1-0 result over Oklahoma Baptist at the MSU Soccer Field.
"They have a good connection and play smart," MSU coach
Jeff Trimble said. "When one gets the ball, the other moves well up there."
A quick exchange in the midfield allowed center mid
Kendra Clemons to chip a pass forward to Pritchard in the sixth minute of the contest. Pritchard then served what resulted in a 50-50 ball between the fleet-footed Hill and Bison keeper Sarah Robinson.
Hill won the race to the ball and nailed her third tally of the season into the net along the far post for the lone score of the contest.
The Mustangs (4-1) dominated the run of play by outshooting Oklahoma Baptist 19-5 while placing five shots on frame as the Bison could only manage one non-threatening chance.
"We just didn't execute offensively and weren't able to make the final pass," Trimble said. "We got good build up but just couldn't finish opportunities."
Mallory Whitworth was forced to make just one save to earn her first shutout of the season.
The Mustangs battle Newman (Kan.) Sunday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. or 25 minutes after the men's game against St. Edward's which begins at 1.
Oklahoma Baptist dropped to 1-2-1.
