WICHITA FALLS, Texas - No. 5 Midwestern State jumped out to an early lead and coasted to a 9-1 run-rule win in five innings over No. 21 Nebraska-Omaha Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park to advance to the final round of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional No. 1.
The Mustangs take on the winner of the West Texas A&M/Nebraska-Omaha elimination game Sunday at 1:30 p.m. for the right to advance to a best-of-three super regional next weekend.
The Lady Buffs and Mavericks clash for the second time in two days Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
Midwestern jumped on Nebraska-Omaha starter Molly Negrete for three runs in the top of the first inning fueled by
Lauren Craig's two-run single and
Mallory Mooney's run-scoring single to give the Mustangs a 3-0 advantage.
Nebraska-Omaha turned to junior pitcher Lindsey Slocum to work out of trouble, but she yielded four runs on three hits in three innings as the Mustangs also got to right-hander in the third inning.

Nicki Duff and
McKenzie Sickler each drove in a run and
Courtney Bingham came plateward on a throwing miscue to give the Mustangs a 7-0 lead through three innings.
The Mavericks took advantage of an MSU fielding miscue i the fourth inning to score their lone run of the contest when Emma Wright drove in Julia Krejci with a single to center field.
That was more than enough for Mustangs' starter
Katie Petersen who improved to 25-4 after yielding an unearned run on five hits in the five inning complete game. She notched nine strikeouts and walked no one.
Midwestern freshman shortstop
Natalie Rodriguez delivered the final blow with a two-run double in the fifth inning.
Rodriguez, Bingham and Craig had two hits each to pace MSU's 11-hit attack.
The Mustangs improved to 52-8 on the season, while Nebraska-Omaha slipped to 50-12.
