JOPLIN, Mo. - No. 21 Midwestern State ran its winning streak to eight games by claiming three wins at the Teri Zenner Mathis Invitational Sunday afternoon at Kungle Field.
The Mustangs, who have now won 15 of their last 16 games, went a perfect 6-0 this weekend at the tournament which included wins over Nebraska-Omaha, Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western.
Senior pitcher
Katie Petersen spun a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts to move past Brittany Willson as the school all-time K artist as she finished the day with 700 career strikeouts after leading MSU to a 2-1 win over Nebraska-Omaha.
The Plano native also drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single to right field in the fourth inning before UNO tied the game with an unearned run in the fifth.

Mallory Mooney, who had reached on a one-out walk.
Petersen picked up her second win of the day while helping the Mustangs rally for a 7-4 win over Northwest Missouri in the second game of the day.
Petersen, who relieved starter
Kristina Gutierrez in the fourth inning, recorded a strikeout for each of the 10 outs she posted in to improved to 7-2 in 3 1/3 innings of relief.
The Mustangs rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning keyed by
Courtney Bingham's two-run single to left field.
Midwestern State got a strong performance from Tanner in the third game to claim a 7-1 win over Missouri Western.
The Burkburnett product notched 10 strikeouts while giving up eight hits and two walks in the complete game to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Junior first baseman
McKenzie Sickler delivered the big blow of the game with a three-run blast to center field for her second homer of the season.
Midwestern State (17-3) plays host to Southwestern Oklahoma State in its Lone Star Conference North Division opener Tuesday afternoon at Mustangs Park. First pitch for the twin bill is set for 1 p.m.
