Mustangs squeak past East Central, 5-4

ADA, Okla. - Midwestern State used a pair of strong doubles victories to provide the difference in a 5-4 decision over East Central Wednesday afternoon at the Ada Tennis Center.

Monica Graff and Leah Roberts teamed for an 8-1 win over Rhiannon Mecanovic and Nilsa Ramirez at No. 2 doubles, while Kaja Banas and Lauren Huse defeated Kendra Coltrain and Noelia Caballero 8-5 at No. 3 to give the Mustangs a 2-1 edge coming out of doubles.

The teams would split the three singles' contests as Alex Odell-Michels beat Julia Arguello (4-6, 6-4, 6-3) at No. 1, Graff thumped Mecanovic in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) at No. 3 and Lindsey Holcomb rolled Coltrain (6-2, 6-0) at No. 3.

The Mustangs won their third-straight match and have now been victorious in five of their last six.

Midwestern State competes in the Cameron Quad Friday and Saturday afternoon in Lawton.
