Mustangs Notables
- Midwestern State is off to its best start through 32 games in school history at 28-4. The start is two games better than the 2004 and 2006 teams which opened the season at 26-6 through as many games. The Mustangs won the LSC North in their inaugural season of 2004 and claimed the first of two-straight conference titles in 2006.
- The Mustangs can complete their first sweep of games of Lone Star Conference Crossover play with wins over Eastern New Mexico and Abilene Christian. Of course, the competition at the crossover has been complete just twice in the last six seasons. MSU was 4-3 in the 2008 edition.
- Senior pitcher Katie Petersen has struck out 30 batters in her two starts at the LSC Crossover this weekend in Durant. Already MSU's career strikeout leader, she got her 750th victim when she fanned TWU's Kayla Williams in the seventh inning of MSU's 5-2 victory over the Pioneers Saturday afternoon.
- Junior pitcher Brittney Tanner fanned a career-high 14 batters while recording her third shutout of the season in a 6-0 win over Tarleton State Satruday morning. Tanner tied Ashley Kuchenski (279 Ks from 2005-08) for third place on MSU's all-time strikeout list when she K'd former Becca Wessels in the seventh inning of the victory against Tarleton.
- Midwestern State pitchers have combined for 57 strikeouts in 28 innings at this weekend's Lone Star Conference Crossover. To put that in perspective, the MSU staff had fanned 58 in the nine games preceding Spring Break coming into the weekend.
- Senior pitcher Katie Petersen has won 12-straight decisions since falling to 1-2 with a loss at St. Mary's (Texas) on Feb. 7, 2010 at the NCAA II Classic in San Antonio.
- Junior pitcher Brittney Tanner has recorded wins in seven-straight decisions since taking her lone loss of the season on Feb. 25 at Abilene Christian.
- Redshirt freshman Courtney Bingham's two-run double to right field in the fifth inning of MSU's 5-2 win over Texas Woman's was her 15th of the season. She needs two more to match Maranda Bishop, who hit 17 in 2009, for the program's single season highwater mark.
- Junior Kristina Gutierrez delivered run-scoring singles in each of MSU's wins Saturday at the Lone Star Conference Crossover as a pinch hitter. She is now 3-for-8 (.375) with 3 RBIs with a walk this season as a pinch hitter.
