Game Day: #7 Mustangs continue play in the LSC Crossover

DURANT, Okla. - No. 7 Midwestern State continues Lone Star Conference Crossover play Saturday at the Multi-Sports Complex with games against Tarleton State and Texas Woman's University.

The Mustangs tackle the TexAnns at 10 a.m. before taking on the Pioneers at noon.

Both games will be on Field No. 6.

  • Senior pitcher Katie Petersen matched a school record with 16 strikeouts in MSU's 6-1 win over No. 22 West Texas A&M Friday afternoon. She matched Brittany Willson who twice performed the feat first at Southwestern Oklahoma State on March 1, 2005 then again against Angelo State on April 8, 2006.
  • The Midwestern State pitching trio of Brittney Tanner, Kristina Gutierrez and Katie Petersen combined for 29 strikeouts in 14 innings of work as the Mustangs claimed victories over No. 2 Angelo State and No. 22 West Texas A&M Friday afternoon at the LSC Crossover.
  • Senior pitcher Katie Petersen has won 11-straight decisions since opening the season at 1-2. Her last came at St. Mary's on Feb. 7, 2010 at at the NCAA II Classic in San Antonio.
  • The Midwestern State pitching staff has combined to strikeout at least 10 batters nine times this season.
  • Only one of Midwestern State 18 hits in the opening day of the LSC Crossover Friday afternoon in Durant went for extra bases. The only extra base hit? Mallory Mooney's grand slam in the first inning against Angelo State.
  • Seven of MSU's nine hits against West Texas A&M were infield singles. The teams combined for 14 hits - all were singles.
  • Freshman outfielder Elena Bennett legged out multiple hits in both of MSU's games Friday in the LSC Crossover. The Carrollton Creekview High product has seven multiple-hit games this season. She raised her team-best batting average to .432.
  • Sophomore third baseman Mallory Mooney drove in a season-high five runs in MSU's 8-7 win over No. 2 Angelo State. She leads the team with seven mulitple RBI games.
  • The Mustangs improved to 13-0 when junior second baseman Alyson Reynolds occupies the sixth spot in the lineup. Reynolds collected a hit in each of MSU's contests including a two-run single to highlight a three-run first inning against West Texas A&M.
