PLANO, Texas - Midwestern State dominated doubles' play Saturday afternoon at the Colin County Community College Tournament Saturday, but the Mustangs had to settle for a weekend split.
The Mustangs combined to win five of six doubles' matches as MSU thumped Newman 9-0 before falling to Incarnate Word, 5-2.
Sophomore
Alex Odell-Michels headlined the effort by battling for a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 win over Wichita State transfer Laryssa Ferreira at No. 1 singles.
Midwestern then took a 2-1 lead into its showdown with UIW, but the Cardinals rallied to take the first four singles' matches to come off the court.
The Mustangs held leads in the other two singles' matches as Odell-Michels was up on Adriana Hernandez 7-6, 4-2 at No. 1 and freshman
Monika Graff held a 7-6, 4-4 advantage on Gretchen Trautmann at No. 3.
MSU, now 6-3 on the season, is slated to play Central Oklahoma in a Lone Star Conference match on Tuesday, March 9.
