CANYON, Texas - No. 8 West Texas A&M buried Midwestern State with a big spurt late in the first half to take an 88-54 Lone Star Conference South Division win Wednesday night at First United Bank Center.
The win was the 13th-straight for the Lady Buffs over the Mustangs as WT improved to 23-2 on the season and to 7-1 in division play.
The loss extended Midwestern's skid to eight games as the Mustangs fell to 6-15 and 0-8.
MSU hung in with the Lady Buffs in the early going pulling within 12-11 on a
Nolisha Markham layup just less than 4 minutes into the contest.
West Texas A&M would push the lead out to seven before Markham canned her first 3-pointer of the night to pull the Mustangs within 21-17 within 12:45 left in the opening half.
That's when the Lady Buffs got hot.
Holly Isaacs buried consecutive 3-pointers and Callie Schneiderjan tallied another to key a 21-2 run as WT would lead 42-19 after Ceciley Johnson hit a pair of free throws with 5:53 to go.
West Texas A&M would double up the Mustangs 54-27 by outscoring the Mustangs 33-10 over the final 13 minutes of the half.
Markham led the Mustangs with 10 points off of the bench, while
Breeanna Brown and
Savannah Carver added eight points each.
Jamie Simmons paced a pack of four West Texas A&M players in double figures with 21 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Midwestern State plays host to Eastern New Mexico Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
