Game Day: Mustangs face Cameron Monday night in Lawton

Setting the Stage

Midwestern State and Cameron resumes the Red River Rivalry Monday night at Aggie Gym in Lawton, Okla. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

About the Mustangs

Midwestern State erased a 15-point deficit Saturday night at Southwestern Oklahoma State before Michelle Fisher buried a 3-pointer in transition to lift the Bulldogs to a 71-69 win.
 
Junior forward Savannah Thompson keyed the Mustangs' second-half comeback by scoring 17 of her game-high 23 points after intermission.
 
She connected on 7-of-11 shots and hit three free throws as MSU stormed back with 12-1 run to climb back into the game and claimed a 69-68 lead with 24 seconds remaining.
 
The loss dropped the Mustangs to 2-4 on the season and to 0-2 in road games.
 
Carver continues to lead the team in scoring with 16 points per game, but is joined by fellow junior Cierra Thompson (14.7 points a game) and freshman guard Kirsti Degelia (13.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.7 steals a contest).
 
Junior forward Jazman Patterson is the Mustangs top rebounder collecting 9.3 caroms a game while senior forward Nolisha Markham averages 8.7 points and 5.2 rebounds off of the bench.

About the Aggies

Cameron snapped out of a five-game skid by claiming its last two games with wins at Eastern New Mexico and Bacone College.
 
The Aggies (3-5) have played Lone Star Conference South Division favorites to within 10 points falling to Tarleton State 59-50 on Nov. 27 in Lawton before falling to West Texas A&M 70-61 on Dec. 2 in Canyon.
 
Cameron boasts four players averaging in double figure scoring and is led by 6-1 junior guard Sabelle Diata, who was an NJCAA All American last season at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo.
 
The athletic Diata scores 15.4 points a game, pulls down 8.3 rebounds to along with 2.3 blocks and 1.3 steals a contest.
 
Senior guard Josie Stewart adds 14.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while sophomore guard Alexis Williams (11.7 points, 3.0 rebounds) and junior guard Nicole Pendarvis (10.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists) round out the Aggies' top scoring threats.
 
Cameron scores 64.9 points a game and allows 69.8.

About the Series

Midwestern State and Cameron meet in the 59th rendition of the Red River Rivalry Monday night at Aggie Gym.
 
MSU owns a 35-23 edge in the series and have won its last five games against the Aggies including a 59-46 win last season in Wichita Falls.
 
Cameron, which is 14-12 against the Mustangs all time at Aggie Gym, last beat Midwestern by a 72-65 count on Dec. 6, 2005 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

  • Midwestern State fell to 8-11 in Lone Star Conference crossover games in the Noel Johnson era. The Mustangs were 3-5 in 2008-09, 4-4 in 2009-10 and 1-2 this season. MSU is 3-6 on the road against LSC North foes over the last three seasons.
