For the Record

Midwestern State heads into the ninth week of the season in need of its first signature win of the season.

The Mustangs will get that chance against No. 4 Texas A&M-Kingsville as they face their third nationally ranked team of the season, but MSU hasn't been successful as it dropped a narrow 31-28 loss at No. 5 Abilene Christian on Oct. 9 then again at No. 17 West Texas A&M by a 42-29 margin on Oct. 23 in Canyon.

Midwestern State is 7-0 against sub-.500 teams and 0-2 against teams with winning records this season. The Mustangs are most likely in need of a win to solidify postseason hopes.

The Mustangs are looking for their first win in its ninth try against teams ranked in the Top 5 in the American Football Coaches' Association dating back to the school's entry into NCAA Division II in 1995.

Midwestern is 7-26 overall against ranked opposition since 1995 including a 1-12 mark on the road.

Who's Hot

Freshman cornerback Neiko Conway enjoyed a breakout performance gaining Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors after returning an interception 99 yards to set the Mustangs up for a score late in the third quarter last week against Tarleton State.

The Houston Lamar High product made season-high six tackles against the Texans and blocked a field goal in the final minute of the first half.

Conway had notched his first collegiate interception and blocked a punt on Oct. 23 at West Texas A&M.

Junior running back Lester Bush paced the Mustangs' rushing attack for the fourth time this season rushing for 70 yards on 14 carries.

Bush has run for 366 yards on 70 carries after missing the first two games of the season due to injury.
