WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Jeff Trimble's team couldn't have given him a better gift on his 40th birthday.
Freshman forward
Mickey Brown's breakaway in the 99th minute during the first overtime was driven off of UCO keeper Samantha Rusk's arms and tapped in by
Kelsey Hill to power 19th-ranked Midwestern State to a 1-0 victory Friday night at the MSU Soccer Field.
"I saw Mickey take off and I just backed her up," Hill said. "I was just in the right place at the right time."
The junior forward from Wichita Falls has made it a habit to be where she needs to throughout her MSU career. Her 10th goal lifted the Mustangs to their first Lone Star Conference final appearance since 2004 and the Mustangs will go for their first conference title since 1998.
"When she played that ball through, I didn't know what was going on," MSU coach
Jeff Trimble said. "Mickey did a great job of holding off the defender while she played the ball. When she finally got clear (of the UCO defender), she made a great decision to shoot it."
And Rusk made a great diving save to her right, but was unable to control the ball allowing Hill to tap ball for the sudden victory as MSU improved to 16-2 on the season.
The Mustangs will now face Abilene Christian, a 2-0 winner over Angelo State in Friday's other semifinal, Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. MSU defeated the Wildcats 2-1 earlier this season in Abilene.
MSU controlled much of the contest as the Mustangs held an 18-5 in total shots and a 4-1 edge in shots on goal.
"UCO is well-coached and has been playing very well," Trimble said. "We knew we were going to have our hands full."
Central Oklahoma managed just one shot on frame, but MSU goalkeeper made a sprawling save to her right to save Sherri Collins shot from 8 yards out on the right wing near the touch line.
The Bronchos close the season with a 11-8-1 record.
