Midwestern State whips Pioneers, 3-0

DENTON, Texas - Midwestern State edged closer to its first Lone Star Conference regular season title since 1998 with a 3-0 win over Texas Woman's University here Friday afternoon.

The Mustangs (14-2, 9-1) can clinch the right to host next week's league tournament with a win or tie with Texas A&M-Commerce Sunday afternoon in Commerce. 

Senior Jordan Smith got the Mustangs on the board in the 28th minute when she collected a clear after Lindsay Pritchard worked a cross in the box . Jordan collected the rebound and found the open net for her second goal of the season to give MSU a 1-0 lead.

Pritchard notched her 10th goal of the campaign after collecting the ball in the midfield working past two Pioneer defender and pounded the ball to the upper left corner of the net to push the Mustangs' advantage to 2-0.

Freshman forward Mickey Brown broke away for her fourth goal in the 78th minute to give MSU a three-goal lead late in the second half.

The Mustangs controlled play by outshooting the Pioneers 18-9 including a 10-3 edge in the opening half.

Texas Woman's fell to 4-11-2 on the season and 2-6-2 in conference play.

The Pioneers close out the regular season by playing host to Abilene Christian Sunday at the TWU Soccer Field.
