Wayland Baptist closes out Mustangs, 3-1

PLAINVIEW, Texas - Midwestern State and Wayland Baptist exchanged haymakers in the opening sets Tuesday night at Hutcherson Center as the Mustangs recovered from a 15-25 thumping to even the match 25-11.

But the Pioneers proved they could close the tight sets as well rolling to a 3-1 win taking the third and fourth stanzas by matching 25-21 counts.

The loss snaps MSU's modest two-match win streak as the Mustangs fall to 12-12, while Wayland Baptist won for the eighth time in nine tries in October to roll to 15-7 on the season.

Freshman Caitlin Wallace paced the Midwestern attack by putting down 12 kills with one error in 18 attempts for a season-best .611 hitting percentage, while senior right-side hitter Karolina Damjanovic finished with 10 kills and a .304 hitting percentage.

Senior middle blocker Lauren Bayer led MSU at the net with six total blocks while Wallace contributed four of Midwestern's 10 total team blocks.

Junior outside hitter Hillary White led back row efforts with 18 digs, while libero Mallory Goon finished with 14.
