AUSTIN - No. 2 Midwestern State took it to St. Edward's (Texas) in the second half, but settled for its second consecutive scoreless draw Sunday afternoon at the SEU Soccer Field.
"It's frustrating," MSU coach
Doug Elder said. "A lot of emotion and energy was spent on Friday night and they were really all over us in the first half, then we came out and controlled the second half. We should have buried the game."
Each team had a shot clank off of the crossbar in the opening half as the Hilltoppers controlled a slim 7-6 edge in shots in the opening half.
The Mustangs dominated after intermission enjoying a 14-3 shot differential, but was unable to find the back of the net for the second straight match after battling No. 19 Incarnate Word to a scoreless draw Friday night in San Antonio.
"We played well enough to win the game in the second half and that's frustrating," Elder said. "(St. Edward's) played hard and recovered very well, but we need to be more aggressive in the box to put away our second opportunities."
Senior goalkeeper
Raul Herrera blanked his third consecutive opponents with four saves as he became MSU's all-time leader in career shutouts with 20.
Matt Moore made six saves for the Hilltoppers, who are now 8-4-2.
Midwestern State (12-0-2) return to the MSU Soccer Field for a pair of home matches against Northeastern State on Friday and St. Thomas (Texas) on Sunday.
The Mustangs remain the lone undefeated side in NCAA Division II men's soccer and are unbeaten in their last 30 regular season matches.
