No. 2 Mustangs battle to scoreless draw with No. 19 Incarnate Word

SAN ANTONIO - No. 2 Midwestern State had two shots slam off of the post and had a penalty kick saved, and then survived an Incarnate Word shot off of the post in the second overtime as the Mustangs and Cardinals battled to a scoreless draw Friday night at Benson Stadium.

MSU, which remains unbeaten at 12-0-1 for the season and 4-0-1 in Lone Star Conference play, battles St. Edward's Sunday afternoon in Austin. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

The Mustangs dominated throughout the run of play holding a 21-13 edge in shots and a 10-4 advantage in shots on frame, but failed to capitalize on numerous quality chances.

Senior midfielder Casey Hibbs hit the post in the 33rd, but the Mustangs had even better opportunities in the second frame.

Senior midfielder Paulo Teixeira failed beat Incarnate Word keeper Chris Fidler on a penalty kick after a UIW hand ball in the box in the 67th minute.

Two minutes later, junior midfielder Nathan Fitzgerald knocked a one-timer from 5 yards out into the post.

Incarnate Word outshot the Mustangs 4-2 in extra time as MSU survived Callum Riley's shot off of the post in the 106th minute.
