Midwestern splits at Wells Fargo Shootout

DURANT, Okla. - Midwestern State split a pair of matches at the Wells Fargo Shootout Saturday night at Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Hillary White and Karolina Damjanovic put down eight kills each to lift the Mustangs to their third-straight win with a 25-20, 25-22, 25-23 win over St. Mary's (Texas) before falling to Oklahoma Baptist later in the day.

White, a junior outside hitter from North Richland Hills, also led the defensive effort against the Rattlers finishing with 14 digs and three blocks, while junior libero Kiara Jordan added 13 digs as the Mustangs limited St. Mary's to a .093 team attack percentage.

It was the Mustangs second triumph of the season over STMU after rallying from a two-set deficit to claim a 3-2 win last month at the Tarleton State Invitational.

MSU then ran into a hot Oklahoma Baptist squad which left Durant having won 10 of its last 11 matches.

The Bison, led by Rupia Inck and Kristin Pressley who combined for 39 kills, slugged out a .231 team attack percentage to claim a 17-25, 26-24, 25-17, 25-16 win to end the Mustangs' modest winning streak.

Sophomore Shelbi Stewart paced the Mustangs with 13 kills while White finished with 10 kills and 11 digs.

Jordan once again led back row efforts with 24 digs.

Midwestern State hits the road for a pair of Lone Star Conference contests first against Eastern New Mexico Thursday in Portales before facing West Texas A&M Saturday afternoon in Canyon.
