WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Jolyn Timms put down 16 kills to lead Northwood (Mich.) University to a straight-set victory over Midwestern State Saturday afternoon in the finale of the MSU Hampton Inn-vitational at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Mustangs, who fell to 1-7 on the season, struggled on the offensive with a .088 team hitting percentage and managed just 27 kills in the 25-20, 25-18, 25-20 setback.
Sesley Graves was the lone bright spot for the MSU attack as the senior middle blocker finished with seven kills with no errors on 13 attempts for a .538 attack percentage, while sophomore outside hitter
Hillary White finished six kills and sophomore outside hitter
Miranda Byrd had five.
Timms, a junior outside hitter, made just error in 25 attempts (.600), but the Mustangs limited the rest of the Northwood attack to .033 kill rate, but were unable to capitalize on opportunities.
Junior middle blocker
Lauren Bayer accounted for four of MSU's seven blocks (three solo, two block assists), while Graves and
Tiana Bond had two total blocks each.
Sophomore libero
Kiara Jordan led the back effort with 13 digs, while sophomore
Dimery Michaels topped the Mustangs with 11 assists.
Midwestern plays host to Incarnate Word Monday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
