WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Hard work does pay off in the end.
That's exactly what MSU's
Lindsay Pritchard learned Thursday night at the MSU Soccer Field as the sophomore striker netted two goals to lead the No. 14-ranked Mustangs to a 2-0 win over Northwood (Texas) University.
"Lindsay's had a rough couple of months," MSU coach
Jeff Trimble said. "She really is our hardest working player in practice and she has a lot of skill. I felt like it was a matter of time before she started scoring goals. It was great to see."
Pritchard settled a ball just inside the box in the 26th minute and ripped a shot past Northwood goalkeeper Ashley Ford to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.
"She took a touch and just ripped it," Trimble said. "It was a great shot."
Pritchard capped off her first mutiple-goal performance on a give-and-go combo from fellow sophomore striker
Kelsey Hill to beat Ford again for her second goal of the season.
The Mustangs dominated the run of play with a 24-3 advantage in total shots, including a 13-1 edge in shots on goal.
"We played smart and created a lot of good chances," Trimble said. "Their keeper just made some great saves and played really well."
MSU freshman
Mallory Whitworth made a one save to complete her first career shutout.
The Mustangs improved to 4-0-1 to match the best start in program history, while NAIA Northwood dropped to 2-3.
Midwestern State faces Oklahoma Baptist Tuesday afternoon in Shawnee. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
