Midwestern State to face Central Oklahoma in elimination game

ABILENE, Texas - Midwestern State faces Central Oklahoma in an elimination game Saturday afternoon in the Lone Star Conference Championships at Wells Field. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.

The Mustangs scattered seven hits but was to capitalize on four Abilene Christian errors to fall to the Wildcats 3-0 in Friday's opening round while West Texas A&M routed Central Oklahoma 19-3.

With a win, MSU would play the loser of the Abilene Christian/West Texas A&M contest in another elimination game Saturday night at 6 p.m.

The Wildcats and Lady Buffs open play Saturday in the winner's bracket finals at 1 p.m.

With two wins, Midwestern State would advance to the Abilene site championship round against the winner of the ACU/WT contest Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The if necessary game would follow at 4:30.

The winners advances to play the the Durant, Okla. site winner next week in a best two-out-of-three series for the Lone Star Conference championship.

Against the Bronchos

Central Oklahoma claimed wins in three for its four games against Midwestern State this season as the Bronchos swept the Mustangs 5-4 and 8-2 in Wichita Falls on March 10.

The teams split the return twin bill in Edmond on March 15 with MSU claiming a 2-1 victory courtesy of a strong pitching performance by Brittney Tanner in the opener before falling in Game 2 by an 8-7 score.

Sophomore Alyson Reynolds, who is out with an injured left arm, led the MSU attack against the Bronchos with a .600 average, but junior catcher Lauren Craig hit a robust .583 and slugged 1.083 with three doubles, a homer and drove in three runs against the Bronchos.

Freshman left fielder Nicki Duff hit .500 with a double while scoring a run and driving in another from the No. 2 slot.
