TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Brittney Tanner fanned seven in a complete game win to lead Midwestern State past Northeastern State 4-1 in Game 1 Wednesday afternoon at RiverHawks Park.
The sophomore improved to 14-7, but had her bid for a second career shutout broken up when Erica Holly connected for a one-out homer in the sixth inning.
The Mustangs, who have now won three-straight games, improved to 30-15 on the season and have now claimed victories in seven of their last eight contests.
MSU jumped out to an early lead when
Nicki Duff led off the first inning with an infield single and scored on
Tabitha Yannetti's double to the left-field gap to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.
Midwestern took advantage of a pair of Northeastern State errors to plate two more runs in the fifth before taking on another run with the benefit of another RiverHawks miscue in the sixth.
Yannetti,
Maranda Bishop and
Lauren Craig had two hits apiece to pace MSU's nine-hit attack, while Holly was 2-for-3 with a homer to lead Northeastern.
