WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Lauren Craig's run-scoring single to center field lifted Midwestern State to a 5-4 win over No. 18 Abilene Christian in Game 1 Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park.
The Mustangs extended its current winning streak to five games and have now now 15 of their last 16 games to improve 16-5 on the season while Abilene Christian dropped to 15-8.
Alyson Reynolds got the scoring started with fourth home run of the season in the second inning before Midwestern took advantage of an Abilene Christian error to score three runs in the third.
Maranda Bishop keyed the inning with an RBI double down the right-field line to knot the score at 4-4.
That is where it would remain until freshman left fielder
Nicki Duff led off the bottom of the seventh inning with an infield single.
Tabitha Yannetti would reach on another infield single before
Jessica Rodriguez drew a walk.
Craig then laced an single to center field to plate Duff and give the Mustangs the win.
Sophomore
Brittney Tanner claimed the win for the Mustangs to improve to 7-2 after allowing two with six strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings in relief of starter
Kaelee Kramer.
Kramer allowed four runs - two earned - on four hits in 2 1/3 innings in her first collegiate start.
Duff, Craig, Reynolds and
Sarah Weary each had two hits for the Mustangs.
