TOPEKA, Kan. - No. 29 Midwestern State overcame a doubles deficit by taking four singles matches to claim a 5-4 win over No. 34 Washburn Tuesday afternoon at the WU Tennis Courts.
Vjekoslav Stipanic and
Daniel McMullan overcame Washburn's Branden Joost and Brad Johnston 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, but Washburn went into singles' play with a 2-1 edge.
The Ichabods rolled to wins at the top two singles' positions as Joost upended Stipanic 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 and Simon Blondin defeated
Tiago Vilarinho 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2.
But the Mustangs stormed to victories in the remaining matches.
Carlos Battaler outlasted Ryan Ward 6-7, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3, McMullan edged Drew Hanson 7-5, 7-5 at No. 4,
Octavian Dinuta overcame Yann Kasey 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 and
Chad Meeks rolled Johnston 6-2, 7-5 at No. 6.
Midwestern State improved to 6-4 on the season, while Washburn fell to 2-3.
