WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State erupted for six runs in the first innings to coast to a 12-2 run rule of East Central in Game 2 Tuesday afternoon at Mustangs Park.
The win earned a split for Midwestern which improved to 21-9 on the season and to 8-4 in the Lone Star Conference North Division.
East Central starter Samantha Watson last just 2/3 innings as the Mustangs jumped on the Tigers for six runs on five hits as MSU sent 10 hitters to the plate in the first inning.
Jessica Rodriguez stroked a run-scoring double to put the Mustangs on the board and
Lauren Craig drew bases loaded while
Alyson Reynolds and
Sarah Weary had RBI-singles and
Amanda Potysman added a sacrifice fly to key the big inning.
Sophomore starter
Brittney Tanner coasted to the decision to improve to 10-3 on the season. The Burkburnett product yielded two runs - one earned - on seven hits with three strikeouts in the five-inning complete game.
The Mustangs added a run in the third on a
Nicki Duff's RBI-single through the right side before putting the game away with another big inning in the fourth.
The Mustangs loaded the bases before Kelli Ward and
Maranda Bishop delivered a pair of run-scoring single. Pinch-hitter
Brittany Dumas finished off ECU with a three-run double to left center.
The Tigers, who fell to 10-17 overall and 3-13 in the LSC North, plated runs in the third and fifth innings.
Tabitha Yannetti joined Bishop, Rodriguez, Reynolds and Weary had two hits each for the Mustangs who slugged out 14 hits.
ECU leadoff hitter Nicole Sanchez went 3-for-3 to pace the Tigers.
Midwestern State faces Oklahoma Panhandle State next Tuesday in Goodwell. First pitch for the twin bill is set for 1 p.m.
