EDMOND, Okla. - Brittney Tanner's fanned six to improve to 8-3 and out-dueled Rachael Steverson as Midwestern State claimed a 2-1 win over Central Oklahoma in Game 1 Saturday at Broncho Field.
Freshman third baseman
Mallory Mooney led off the fourth inning with her third home run of the season while
Maranda Bishop laced an RBI-single through the left side to plate
Lauren Craig and give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead.
That's all the runs Tanner would need as the sophomore allowed just a solo home run to Alley Roberts in the bottom of the fourth. Tanner allowed one run on five hits and walked two in the complete game victory.
Craig joined
Tabitha Yannetti and
Nicki Duff with two hits each for the Mustangs, who scattered 10 hits.
Steverson, who dropped to 3-4, yielded a pair of earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
Midwestern improved to 18-7 on the season and 5-2 in the Lone Star Conference North Division, while Central Oklahoma fell to 11-8 and 6-3.
