WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Central Oklahoma took advantage of a pair of Midwestern State errors in the first inning then cruised to a 8-2 win in Game 2 as the Mustangs suffered a rare sweep at Mustangs Park Tuesday afternoon.
The Bronchos, who had snapped MSU's 10-game home field winning streak which dated back to last season, improved to 11-7 on the season and 6-2 in Lone Star Conference North Division play.
UCO's Ashley Geter reached on a leadoff double and came around to score the game's first run on a wild pitch before MSU second baseman
Tabitha Yannetti mishandled a popup that allowed two more Bronchos to score to give Central Oklahoma a 3-0 lead after one inning.
That was UCO starter Rachael Steverson needed as she scattered nine hits and allowed two runs - one earned - in a complete game win to improve to 3-3. She fanned four and issued two walks.
The Bronchos padded the lead with two more in the fourth as Brittany Weaver sent a one-out double to the left-field gap before Geter lined another double down the right-field line. Geter would come around to score on a Molly Shivers single down the left-field line to give UCO a 5-0 lead.
Midwestern broke up Steverson's bid for a shutout when
Sarah Weary's bunt single plated
Lauren Craig from third base after the Mustangs loaded the bases on a single, a double and a walk, but that's all they would get in the frame.
UCO's Ally Roberts jacked her sixth homer of the seaosn to lead off the fifth and the Bronchos added two more in the seventh.
The Mustangs mustered another run in the seventh, but it wasn't enough.
Craig paced the Midwestern attack by going 3-for-3Â with three doubles, while freshman
Nicki Duff notched her fourth-straight multiple-hit game by going 2-for-3 with a double to extend her hitting streak to nine games.
Midwestern State travels to Edmond for the return doubleheader Saturday afternoon with Central Oklahoma. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
