DENTON, Texas - Brittney Tanner continued her solid start in the circle and drove in three runs of her own to lift Midwestern State to a 9-2 win over Southern Arkansas Friday afternoon in the Texas Woman's University Tournament at Tina Minke Field.
The win was the second-straight for the Mustangs, who improved to 3-4 on the season.
The Mustangs conclude the tournament Saturday afternoon against No. 3 St. Edward's at 1 p.m. and Pittsburg State (Kan.) at 5:30 p.m.
Midwestern struck for three runs in the second keyed by Tanner's two-run double as the Mustangs drove SAU starter Rachel Heideman out of the game after two innings.
Heideman, who took the loss to fall to 0-2, allowed three runs - two earned - on three hits before giving way to Denise Amador.
But she didn't fare much better as the Mustangs tacked a run in the fourth, three in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Tanner improved to 2-1 in the circle allowing two runs on four hits while striking out five and walking two in the complete game win.
Senior center fielder
Maranda Bishop paced the Mustangs by going 2-for-5 with a triple and scored a pair of runs, while freshman third baseman
Mallory Mooney went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI.
Amador accounted for Southern Arkansas' lone runs with a two-run homer in the sixth inning.
The Muleriders fell to 0-4.
