DENTON, Texas - Jessica Rodriguez hit a pair of home runs to lead Midwestern State to a 8-0 run-rule win in five innings in the opener of the Texas Woman's University Tournament Friday afternoon at Tina Minke Field.
The win snapped a four-game skid for Midwestern State, who improved to 2-4 on the season.
The senior from Houston launched a two-run homer in the first inning to left center field to plate
Nicki Duff, who reached on a single to center field.
Alyson Reynolds followed with a blast to left field as the Mustangs jumped on Central Missouri starter Kristal Holland with three runs in the first inning.
Holland was saddled with the loss to fall to 0-1 on the season while allowing eight runs - seven earned - on seven hits in four innings of work.
The Mustangs loaded the bases in the second inning before Holland forced in a run by walking Tabitha Yanetti to push the MSU lead to 4-0.
Midwestern kept the pressure on in the third as Reynolds drew a lead off walk, advanced to second on
Amanda Potysman's single to right field. Reynolds would steal third then score on
Katie Petersen's sacrifice fly to right field to push the Mustangs' lead to five runs.
Rodriguez launched a three-run blast to center field as the Mustangs provided plenty of run support for starter
Katie Petersen.
Rodriguez, who tied a career high with five RBI, and Duff each finished with two hits each as the Mustangs slugged out seven hits.
Petersen struck out nine and walked five to improve to 1-3.
