PHOENIX - No. 28 Midwestern State rolled to an 8-1 win over Grand Canyon Friday afternoon in the Grand Canyon President's Day Duels at Paseo Racquet Club.
The Mustangs, who have now won two-straight to improve to 2-1 on the season, dropped only the No. 1 doubles position as Grand Canyon's Eric Schroeder and Brian Kirby outlasted
Daniel McMullan and
Tiago Vilarinho 8-6.
But MSU snapped back to claim the other two doubles decisions.
Vejekoslav Stipanic and
Chad Meeks teamed up for an 8-1 win over GCU's Jon Przybyl and MSU's Andrew Zappala at No. 2 while
Chip Threadgill and Dinuta aced Chris and Brian Green 8-0 at No. 3.
The Mustangs dominated with six straight-set singles victories.
Stipanic rolled Schoeder 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1, Vilarinho routed Przybyl 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2,
Carlos Bataller beat Kirby 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, McMullan coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Zappala at No. 4, Dinuta dominated Luke Larm 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 and Meeks dusted Vlado Milenkovic 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
Grand Canyon is in its first season as a startup program since discontinuing its men's tennis program in 1987. The Lopes are 0-3.
