PHOENIX - Midwestern State claimed its third-straight win at the Grand Canyon President's Day Duels claiming a 7-2 win over host Grand Canyon University Friday afternoon at the Paseo Racquet Club.
The Mustangs (3-1) took command by taking two of the three doubles contests as
Kaja Banas and
Faye D'Hamecourt teamed up to defeat GCU's Stephanie Haldeman and Veronica Brunk 8-1 at No. 1, while
Alex Odell-Michels and
Collean Kinser also routed Mandy Prudhomme and Karen Peltin 8-1.
Midwestern kept the momentum by rolling to five singles victories headline by Odell-Michels 6-0, 6-2 win over Haldeman at No. 1.
Banas rolled to a 6-3, 6-3 win over Grand Canyon's Stefanie Griffin at No. 2 while D'Hamecourt needed a 10-8 super tiebreaker to defeat Peltin after she split the first two sets 6-2, 4-6.
Midwestern's
Holly Gunderson rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Amanda Jackson at No. 6.
Grand Canyon fell to 4-3 on the season.
