No. 32 Midwestern rolls past No. 23 Hawaii-Hilo, 6-3

PHOENIX - No. 32 Midwestern State claimed its second-straight victory Thursday night at the Grand Canyon President's Day Duels, taking a 6-3 decision over No. 23 Hawaii-Hilo at the Paseo Racquet Club.

The Mustangs (2-1) rallied to take a 2-1 lead in doubles after Hawaii-Hilo's Eve Castaing/Christie Pagatpatan claimed the Vulcans' lone doubles win 8-3 over MSU's Kaja Banas /Tonya Blair.

MSU would take the Nos. 2 and 3 positions as Faye D'Hamecourt/Alex Odell-Michels edged Justine Abella/Nicole Campbell 8-6 and Collean Kinser/Holly Gunderson blew past Akimi Kifune/Kari Rodrigues 8-3, respectively.

The Mustangs polished off the victory by claiming four of the six singles' contests.

Odell-Michels took Castaing 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 and D'Hamcourt rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Abella at No. 4 while Kinser beat Kifune 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 and Gunderson defeated Jenna DeCleene 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 to account for the Mustangs' singles' wins.

Hawaii-Hilo fell to 1-1.
