PHOENIX - No. 29 Midwestern State dominated singles play to claim a season opening 6-3 win over Colorado State-Pueblo Thursday afternoon in the Grand Canyon D-2 President's Day Duals at the Paseo Racquet Club.
The Mustangs claimed wins in five of six singles matches headlined by sophomore
Vjekoslav Stipanic's win over Colorado State-Pueblo's Phillipp Penkatzki 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1.
Tiago Vilarinho defeated Beau Fresquez 6-3, 7-6 at No. 2 while
Daniel McMullan upended Andres Morales 6-7 (7-9), 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4, Carlos Betallar beat Anthony Breitenbach 6-1, 6-1 at No.5 and
Chad Meeks rolled James MacIndoe 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Meeks/Dinuta claimed Midwestern's lone doubles' win at No. 6, taking an 8-0 decision over Breitenbach/MacIndoe.
Colorado State-Pueblo fell to 1-2 on the season.
