STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Midwestern State delivered its best hitting night of the season and rolled to a 25-20, 25-18, 25-13 win over Tarleton State Thursday night at Wisdom Gym.
The Mustangs improved to 8-16 on the season, but more importantly moved to 4-0 to keep pace with West Texas A&M, who improved to 5-0 with a sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma Thursday night in Canyon.
Sophomore outside hitters
Miranda Byrd and
Hillary White joined junior right-side hitter Kari Damjanovic for near flawless attack night as the setting combo of
Dimery Michaels (21 assists) and
Kimberly Jeffrey (17 assists) directed a .342 team hitting performance.
Byrd notched her second career double-double and led the Mustangs with 13 kills, hit .357 and added 17 digs, while White was errorless in 23 attacks for a .435 hitting percentage. She finished with 10 kills, 14 digs and tied a career high with four total blocks.
Damjanovic committed just one error and hit .529 on her way to a career-high 10 kills.
Junior middle blocker
Lauren Bayer was big at the net with six total blocks as the Mustangs limited the Texans to a .119 team attack percentage.
Sophomore libero
Kiara Jordan returned from a four-match absence to record 10 digs.
Midwestern State continues its road trip when it takes on Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday afternoon at Steinke Center. First service is set for 2 p.m.
Tarleton State dropped to 7-15 and 2-3.
