SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Shelbi Stewart recorded her first career double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs to lead Midwestern State to a 25-19, 25-23, 25-21 win over Texas A&M International Saturday morning at Bill Greehey Arena.
The Mustangs have now won four of their last six matches to improve to 7-15 on the season, while the Dustdevils dropped to 2-17.
MSU returns to D.L. Ligon Coliseum Tuesday night when it plays host to Lubbock Christian. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
Stewart, who added a pair of service aces and two blocks, has come on strong over her last six matches. The true freshman led the Mustangs with 2.88 kills per set while hitting .289 with eight service aces, 1.29 digs and 0.42 blocks per set. The 14-dig performance also marked her first career match with more than 10.
Sophomore
Miranda Byrd was errorless in 16 attack attempts and finished with nine kills and a .562 attack percentage. The 6-1 outside hitter also had a team-high five total blocks.
Freshman defensive specialist added 13 digs, while
Hillary White and
Dimery Michaels added 12 and 10, respectively.
Isela Flores and Alexandria Montemayor had 11 kills each to pace the Dustdevils.
