Damjanovic sparks Mustangs to 3-0 sweep of St. Mary’s

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Midwestern State's Karolina Damjanovic put down a career-best nine kills to help the Mustangs to a 25-22, 25-19, 25-23 win over St. Mary's (Texas) Friday afternoon at Bill Greehey Arena.

The junior outside hitter from Serbia was forced into action as the Mustangs went without starting middle blocker Lauren Bayer and libero Kiara Jordan.

But Damjanovic stepped in to make kills in nine of her 15 attempts and committed just two errors for a .467 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Miranda Byrd hit .421 with a team-high 10 kills as the Mustangs tallied 39 kills in the three-set win and combined for a team hitting percentage of .245.

Freshman Shelbi Stewart continued her stellar play with nine kills, six aces and four digs.

Senior middle blocker Sesley Graves led the Mustangs at the net with five total blocks, while freshman defensive specialist Mallory Goon had 10 digs to pace back-row efforts.

The Mustangs battle Incarnate Word tonight at 7 p.m. before closing their three-match weekend against Texas A&M International Saturday at 11 a.m.

All matches are being played at Bill Greehey Arena on the campus of St. Mary's University.
