WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State had too many attack options and was near flawless defensively as the Mustangs rolled to a 25-14, 25-9, 25-14 Lone Star Conference win over Eastern New Mexico Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
MSU, which improved to 9-17 on the season and 5-1 in conference, takes on No. 6 West Texas A&M Saturday at home. First service for the designated Dig Pink for Breast Awareness event is set for 2 p.m.
Junior middle blocker
Lauren Bayer needed just nine attacks to put down a seven kills for a sterling .778 attack percentage, but was just as effective in helping the Mustangs to 10 total team block at the net.
The San Antonio native registered a solo block to go with four block assists, but had plenty of help six MSU players recorded multiple blocks including
Sesley Graves (4), Kari Damjanovic (3),
Hillary White (2),
Miranda Byrd (2) and
Shelbi Stewart (2).
The Mustangs were also stellar on the back row where sophomore libero
Kiara Jordan led the way with 17 digs, while White added 14 of her own.
Midwestern limited ENMU to a season-low -.010 team attack percentage as the Zias finished 22 kills while committing 23 attack errors in 98 total attempts.
Byrd paced the Mustangs with eight kills and added three service aces while hitting .429, while Damjanovic and Graves added five kills each.
Madison Rose, Jessica King and Megan Carpenter led Eastern New Mexico with five kills each.
The Zias fell to 5-17 and 0-7.
