WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State's
Regiane Araujo delivered her fifth double-double of the season in grand fashion Monday night as she finished with 25 points and 15 rebounds at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
But she needed a pair of clutch plays from
Michele Kenney and
Katiya Jackson to seal a 68-66 Lone Star Conference crossover win over East Central.
The Mustangs, who have now won consecutive games for the first time this season, improved to 4-8 on the season and will face Cameron Thursday afternoon in Lawton. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
Kenney, who was the only other MSU player in double figures with 12, hit a bit 3-pointer with 1:04 remaining to push the Mustangs' advantage back to four points after ECU's Veronica Valles hit a trey with 1:19 to go to pull the Lady Tigers to within 64-63.
Jackson then forced Kacey Thomas into a tough shot on the other end of the floor and pulled down a rebound in traffic to earn a trip to the free throw line with three seconds left.
The Mustangs continued their stellar shooting as they notched their sixth-straight game over 40 percent as a team by hitting 27 of 61 shots from the field (44.3 percent).
That was thanks in large part to Araujo, who hit 12 of her 16 shots to notch her fifth double-double in six games.
East Central was led by Casi Rawls who finished with 19 points and five assists, while Angela Kalonoska added 17 points and six rebounds and Thomas had 15 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
The Lady Tigers fell to 5-7 on the season.
